DreamHack: The heart of gaming and a community for the future

DreamHack 2024 has once again demonstrated why it is the world’s largest digital festival and a unique hub for gaming, esports and digital culture. With up to 60,000 visitors, the festival filled Stockholmsmässan with a passionate community and groundbreaking experiences.

A legacy that drives us forward
“DreamHack has its roots in the LAN culture of the 1990s, and we cherish that legacy every day,” says Andreas Jernberg, Managing Director for the Nordics at ESL FACEIT Group, which organises DreamHack. “But we can never lose touch with the ground – which means we must constantly keep up to date and adapt to new trends.” This blend of history and innovation was evident at this year’s festival. With everything from classic LAN parties to innovative initiatives such as the Def Jam Legendary concert, which attracted a wide audience, DreamHack managed to offer something for everyone.

Sidemen and esports: Historic highlights
One of the year’s big moments was when the creative collective Sidemen made their very first visit to Sweden for DreamHack. “It was a milestone in our history – being able to welcome such an iconic group to our event was incredible,” says Andreas.

Furthermore, the Overwatch World Finals set a new standard for esports at DreamHack. The final was a global success that not only attracted a large audience but also sparked interest from other major esports titles in taking part in future festivals.

The Future of DreamHack
“We are incredibly proud that our first year in Stockholm was such a success,” says Andreas. “But it’s not just about the event itself – it’s about continuing to create a place where our community can grow and develop.”

With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability and community, DreamHack is looking ahead to next year’s festival. “Gaming is more widespread and widely accepted than ever before. Our aim is to reflect that diversity and continue to be a place where tradition and the future meet.” DreamHack 2024 was not just a festival – it was a celebration of a constantly evolving culture, and a reminder of the power of community and creativity.
